From Procida to Ventotene with coastal rowing and catamaran boat 7/12 July 2018

Experience the sea rowing!

Rowing4fun, in collaboration with the rower island of Procida, offers you a week in a catamaran with the possibility to row sailing from Procida to the Pontine islands.

The boats

The Lagoon 38 is a comfortable catamaran with 4 cabins and 2 bathrooms that will allow us to thoroughly enjoy our days at sea, as well as admire beautiful sunsets and savour dinners on board. We will take a next-generation Filippi coastal rowing boat with us, and we will have an inflatable boat for our rowboat crossings.

The Programme

On board the Lagoon 38 model catamaran, we will sail from Procida to Ischia and from here to Ventotene and Santo Stefano. We will stay overnight on board of the catamaran, in the harbour or ports, and along the way, we will take the oars to explore the coast. We will visit Ischia, circumnavigate Ventotene with its protected marine area, and the small volcanic Island of Santo Stefano halfway between the Lazio and the Campania coast. Since 1817 the story was that Ventotene and Santo Stefano, because of their geographical position, were lands of imprisonment for all those who opposed the kingdom of Naples first and the fascist regime after. The only building present in the islet of Santo Stefano is, in fact, the Bourbon prison, built in 1795 and used by the Italian state as a penal building until 1965, the year of its closure. Among his "illustrious guests" the former President of the Italian Republic Sandro Pertini recluse here for his famous aversion to the fascist regime.

For those who wish, it is possible to stop in Procida with overnight accommodation by boat or b & b.

Departure by boat to Capo Miseno (about 2 hours of rowing). At the destination, we leave the boats and visit the Mirabilis Pool and the Agrippina tomb. The Mirabilis Pool is the largest Roman water cistern known to us. Wholly excavated in the tuff, it has a depth of 15 meters and a capacity of about 12,000 cubic meters of water. Its construction was aimed at supplying the Roman Empire fleet with water. The tomb of Agrippina, mother of Nero, rises near the sea. In reality, the imperial era's building is a covered theatre that is part of an ancient villa that was destroyed; tradition wants that it was the tomb of Agrippina.
